Mumbai, Dec 22: The highly anticipated film ‘Zero’ has opened at the box office with a total collection of Rs 20.14 crore on day 1. The romantic drama, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, opened to mixed reviews.
While for SRK fans, the actor’s charm was the highlight of the Aanand L Rai directorial, for others, the film was a tedious watch.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the first-day box office collection.
“#Zero has underperformed on Day 1, despite extensive release [4380 screens] + #Christmas vacations… Sat and Sun biz extremely crucial… Fri ₹ 20.14 cr. India biz”, he tweeted.

The film’s performance is better than King Khan’s last release Jab Harry Met Sejal which earned Rs 15.25 crore on the day of its release.
The story of ‘Zero’ revolves around Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), a vertically challenged man who squanders his father’s money and is besotted by superstar Babita Kumar (Katrina Kaif). He falls in love with a scientist, Aafia (Anushka Sharma) who is affected by cerebral palsy. Their love story travels from India to the US and all the way to the outer space.
According to the makers, it is a story that celebrates life.
Directed by Anand L. Rai, ‘Zero’ stars Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. The film also sees several cameo appearances from Bollywood stars including Salman Khan, Sridevi, Abhay Deol, R Madhavan, Karisma Kapoor, and Kajol among others.
The film also stars Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sheeba Chaddha, Jaipreet Singh and Brijendra Kala in supporting roles.
Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Colour Yellow Productions, Zero hit the screens yesterday on December 21.
