Dalit Man Lynched To Death For Watching Garba in Gujarat

A 21-year-old Dalit youth was beaten to death for merely watching a garba event underway in a temple from afar in Gujarat’s Anand district.

A 21-year-old Dalit man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of men from the Patel community for watching a garba event underway in a temple in Anand district.

The deceased has been identified as Jayesh Solanki, who along with his cousin Prakash and two other Dalit men was attacked while they were sitting near a house adjacent to the temple where the garba event was underway.

The accused upper caste men reportedly passed derogatory remarks about their caste and opposed their attendance so close to the temple.

A police officer at the Bhadran Police Station said, “The accused said Dalits “do not have any right to watch garba . He made casteist remarks and asked some men to come to the spot.”

Jayesh was brutally thrashed by the mob of unruly upper caste men along with his friends and cousin. “Jayesh’s head was banged against a wall,” added a police officer.
