Lucknow, March 18: Yogi Adityanath is announced as next Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, confirmed sources. The swearing in ceremony would take place tomorrow.
After party high command forwarded the coveted responsibility of announcing the name of UP CM to party President Amit Shah, Governor Ram Naik also said on Friday, “The new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh along with his Cabinet colleagues would take oath on March 19 at 5.00 PM at Kanshiram Smriti Upvan.”
The ascension of fireband leader of BJP, Adityanath strengthens the BJP’s ‘Hindutva’ establishment in the state, but it may provide enough fodder to the opposition to attack the saffron party on lines of ‘divisive politics’ at the same time.
Earlier, Yogi Adityanath’s supporters have put posters and raised slogans demanding him to be the Chief Minister.
“The BJP secured so many seats in the state because of Adityanath. We don’t oppose anybody who’s in the running, but we want Yogi ji to be the Chief Minister,” they said.
Seven days after Bharatiya Janta Party registered an unprecedented win in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the mystery over the name of Chief Minister name widened as supporters of Keshav Prasad Maurya and Yoginath flocked BJP office to demonstrate their support for their leaders.
Few names that were making rounds in media reports for the postion of UP CM were of state party chief Keshav Prasad Maurya, Union Minister Manoj Sinha, and Hindu hardliner Yogi Adityanath, who is also MP from Gorakhpur and Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh. Earlier Home Minister Rajnath Singh was suspected as the lead name for the position.Few Media reports including ANI and IANS claimed Union Telecom Minister and Ghazipur MP Manoj Sinha is going to be next UP CM owing to his large experience in the party operations.
Sinha however brushed off the reports. He said, I am not in race for CM post; Legislature party and Parliamentary board would decide and section of media is unnecessarily speculating.

Both Maurya and Yoginath were called to meet Amit Shah in the morning before the high-octane meeting of BJP’s 312 newly-elected MLAs to decide the final name in Luchnow.
Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and national general secretary Bhupendra Yadav will also be present at the meeting to elect the chief minister.
Another group had demanded veteran leader Kalyan Singh to be given the coveted post making it a problem of plenty for the state leadership.
“We know that he is the ruling Governor of a state, but we think he is the only one who can handle the state and its affairs,” one of the protestors said.
Since the BJP picked Trivendra Singh Rawat as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, a similar choice of caste in Sinha may strengthen the party’s stronghold in the north.
