“Wonder Woman” opens with grand weekend




Washington, June 5: Hollywood movie “Wonder Woman” steals the box office collection in North America with an estimated $100.5 million in first weekend.

Warner Bros. Superhero Film with the first female director Patty Jenkins directed superhero film made the biggest ever opening weekend.

“Wonder Woman” also won the weekend with $122.5 million in overseas.

“A perfectly cast Gal Gadot in the lead role coupled with a great release date, killer marketing campaign and above all a great movie that has both critics and audiences buzzing on social media, contributed to this better than expected result,” said movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian at comScore

Female director Sam Taylor-Johnson’s “Fifty Shades of Grey” which earned $85 million in first weekend in 2015 was the previous record holder for highest opening.

Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is on third place with an estimated $21.6 million.

Disney and Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” landed in the fourth place with an estimated $9.7 million.

Paramount’s “Baywatch” finished fifth with an estimated $8.5 million in its second weekend.

Box office collection: ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ crosses Rs 100 crore mark




Mumbai, March 20: Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan, whose latest film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety hit theatres on February 23, has crossed 100 crores run on box office India.

With this feat, it has outrun films such as Akshay Kumar’s Padman to become the second biggest hit of the year till now, after Padmaavat. The movie has emerged as a surprise hit at the box office, especially given its estimated budget is as low as Rs 30 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures and wrote, “Truly UNSTOPPABLE… 💯 cr and counting… #SonuKeTituKiSweety marches into ₹ 100 cr Club… SECOND FILM to cross ₹ 100 cr mark in 2018, after #Padmaavat… [Week 4] Fri 1.27 cr, Sat 2.11 cr, Sun 2.32 cr, Mon 76 lakhs. Total: ₹ 100.10 cr. India biz… #SKTKS.”

Starring Kartik Aaryan, Sunny Singh, and Nushrat Bharucha in titular roles of Sonu, Titu, and Sweety, respectively, the film has been unstoppable on the box office since its release.

The comedy flick, which revolves around the lifelong war between friendship and love, is helmed by Luv Ranjan and also stars Alok Nath in a pivotal role of Titu’s sassy grandfather.

‘Race 3’ New Poster: After Salman Khan as Sikander, Meet Jacqueline Fernandez as Jessica

New Delhi, March 20: After releasing the first poster of Salman Khan as Sikander, the makers of Race 3 have launched a new poster of Jacqueline Fernandez today. Salman took to his Twitter account and shared Jacqueline AKA Jessica’s first look from the film.

Salman wrote while introducing Jacqueline’s character, “Jessica: Raw power . #Race3 #Race3ThisEid @Asli_Jacqueline @SKFilmsOfficial @TipsOfficial”.

The actress, who was a part of the earlier franchise too shared her poster on social media saying, “..and power can be dangerous!! #Race3ThisEid #Repost @beingsalmankhan”.

In the poster, we can see that the Roy actress is all ready for some high octane action sequences as she holds a gun in her hand. Dressed in the black attire, Jacqueline looks stylish and sexy!

On Monday, Salman had tweeted about his Race 3 character, “Is hafte milata hoon #Race3 ki family se … mera naam hai Sikander. Selfless over selfish . #Race3ThisEid @tipsofficial @SKFilmsOfficial.”

Directed by Remo D’Souza, Race 3 also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Saqib Saleem and Daisy Shah. Produced by Salman Khan Films and Ramesh Taurani under the banner of Tips Films, the third instalment will hit theatres on Eid 2018.

Sridevi, Shashi Kapoor to be honoured at New York Indian Film Festival

New York, March 20: Indian cinema icons Shashi Kapoor and Sridevi will be remembered at the New York Indian Film Festival.

The event will be held from May 7-12.

Shashi Kapoor, star of Merchant-Ivory films such as “The Householder”, will be honoured with the screenings of “Shakespeare Wallah” and “Heat and Dust”, reports

The fest will also hold a Merchant-Ivory retrospective that also includes the screening of “Autobiography of a Princess”, starring Madhur Jaffrey.

To honour Sridevi, her 2012 hit “English Vinglish”, which was mainly set in New York, will be screened.

Son of Prithviraj Kapoor and younger brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor made his debut in Bollywood with the 1961 film “Dharmputra” after working as a child artist. He passed away in December 2017.

Bollywood’s ultimate “charm house” Shashi Kapoor then went on to make a name for himself globally by associating with international cinema. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan — the third highest civilian honour — by the Indian government in 2011.

Sridevi, known for her ability to slip into myriad roles, expressive eyes, sheer comic timing and her fluid dancing skills, died on February 24. Her death left everyone shocked and saddened.

The fest opens on May 7 with “Nude”, a Marathi-language film directed by Ravi Jadhav.

The story centres around a single mother who gets a job as a nude model at an art school but fears the judgment of others and keeps her job a secret.

Hansal Mehta’s “Omerta”, starring Rajkummar Rao, is the closing night film on May 12. The film traces the life of British-Pakistani terrorist Omar Saeed Sheikh.
