Woman gives birth to a baby in public toilet

BAGALKOT, July 17: In a shocking case, a seven-month pregnant woman who went to a bus stand toilet to answer the call of nature and delivered a baby boy there in Ilktal town of the district’s Hungund taluk on Sunday.

Nirmala Siddhesh Hadapad, 27, of Gani village in Muddebihal taluk of Vijayapura district, was heading to Hungund taluk’s
Kandagal village along with her mother when the incident took place. Nirmala and her husband recently shifted to Goa on work.

According to the Police sources, when Nirmala went to the washroom at Ilkal bus stand suddenly she felt the labour pain and gave birth to a baby boy, aided by other women in the loo.

Later, a government ambulance took her to the Ilkal government hospital.

As the newly born is premature, a doctor attending to her said that more attention will be paid to the mother and son.

Guwahati, July 15 (IANS) The daughter of BJP’s Lok Sabha MP R.P. Sharma is among 19 government officials issued summons on Sunday by the Assam Police in the multi-crore cash-for-jobs scam.

The Dibrugarh police, which is probing the case, has asked these officials to appear at the Special Branch Headquarters in Kahilipara area here on July 18 to give their handwriting samples for forensics tests.

These 19 include 13 officials of Assam Civil Service Officers, three of Assam Police Service and three of allied services. “Police officer Pallabi Sharma is the daughter of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha MP from Tezpur, R.P. Sharma,” said a senior official on the probe team.

The official said that police has already collected substantial evidence against the 19 for their alleged involvement in the job scam.

Certain top officials of the Assam Public Service Commission, which holds the two-stage examination for selecting candidates for plum state jobs, allegedly accepted huge bribes over several years for selecting the candidates.

Over 30 Assam civil and police as well as allied services officers have so far been arrested in the scam, apart from then APSC Chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul, two commission members, and other officials.

Family of 6 commit suicide in Jharkhand over Rs 50 Lakh debt

Ranchi, July 15 : Six members of a family committed mass suicide in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district, police said on Sunday.

The victims were Naresh Maheswari, a resident of the district’s Munga Bagicha area, his parents, his wife and two of their children.

While Maheswari killed himself by jumping off the roof of his apartment, his parents and wife were found hanging from ceiling fans, while the children had their throats slit, the police said.

A suicide note was recovered which said the reason of the suicides was because of a debt of Rs 50 lakh.

“We are investigating the case from both suicide and a murder angle. Forensic team is collecting samples to ascertain the causees of death,” a police official.

This incident comes after 11 members of a family that was found hanging in their north Delhi house on June 30.(IANS)

Girl commits suicide inside Tilak Nagar police station

New Delhi, July 15: In a shocking incident, a minor girl allegedly committed suicide inside Tilak Nagar police station in Delhi, on Saturday, as the cops remained mute spectators.

The victim’s mother said that her daughter was abducted by one of their neighbours who wanted her daughter to marry their son.

“They wanted their son to marry my daughter but I refused since she was a minor,” she said.

 

“Police called me here. I saw her hanging in one room and my three sons locked in another room,” the victim’s mother added.

The victim’s brothers, who were also confined in another room by police, have alleged that the cops remained mute spectators when the victim took her life. .
