Will appeal Govt not to interfere in religious matter: Kharge on Triple Talaq Bill

New Delhi, Dec 27: As Triple Talaq bill will come up for discussion in Lok Sabha on Thursday, Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that we will keep forward our opinion.

“We will take part in the discussion and keep forward our opinion” he told media outside the parliament.

The Congress leader also stated, will appeal to the Narendra Modi government that it should not interfere in a religious matter.

Both the BJP and the Congress have issued whips to their members in the Lok Sabha asking them to be present during the Triple Talaq Bill discussion.

Last week, the Centre and the opposition reached an understanding to hold a discussion on The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018, that seeks to replace an ordinance issued earlier for protecting the rights of married Muslim women and prohibiting divorce by pronouncing “instant talaq” by their husbands.

Amid din in Lok Sabha on December 17, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had introduced the Bill.

In September, the ordinance was promulgated, making the practice of instant divorce an offence under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
