Rahul Gandhi demands removal of weekly withdrawal limit

New Delhi, December 31: Slamming center for staying restrictions on withdrawal amount, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday demanded the removal of the weekly cash withdrawal limit with immediate effect as deadline sought by PM has expired on December 30.

Gandhi tweeted public has lost trust in Prime Minister Modi as PM completely failed to fulfill his promises and caused immense suffering to common man by imposing demonetisation.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier too issued a white paper and asked 5 questions from Prime Minister. He said that income tax and sales tax rebate of 50 per cent should be given to small shopkeepers and businessmen.

Earlier in the morning, Former Finance Minister and Congress leader P. Chidambaram criticised the central government for continuing restrictions on withdrawals from banks after the deadline of December 30.

In a series of tweets, Chidambaram asked PM certain pertinent questions regarding the ground reality of available cash in the banks and ATMs post demonetisation and asked if following January 2 there will be enough cash to fill all ATMs.

He jibed at PM and tweeted as Prime Minister Modi had asked for forbearance until December 30. That is over. Why are restrictions on withdrawing money continuing?


Yesterday the deadline to deposit old denomination notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 expired.Though RBI has relaxed the withdrawal from ATM to Rs 4500 from cap of Rs 2500 effective from January 1, but the weekly withdrawal restrictions at banks have not been changed.
