West Bengal assembly election results: Mamata Banerjee -the undisputed leader

It’s  Mamata Banerjee ,the victorious queen of  West Bengal as she prepares to take charge a second time. The Trinamool was winning in 215 of 294 seats and the rival Left-Congress alliance was leading in 69 seats around 11.30.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to congratulate her on phone as her party emerged as the clear winner in trends during counting.

The Left Front continues to be in decline in the state because they hoisted their campaign on some primetime Mamata bashing and has also failed to put forward new faces or new narratives.

Mamata Banerjee  once again proved a master strategist  thus gave a blow to BJP and specifically AMIT SHAH   and  BJP’s star campaigner Prime Minister Narendra Modi  who campaigned intensively and attacked her many times on governance. Not only in Assembly elections, she had steered Trinamool Congress through victory in subsequent elections to panchayat, civic bodies and 2014 Lok Sabha.

Mamata’s master strategist Mukul Roy was among the first to visit her at her Kolkata home, which was awash in the party’s signature colour blue and Trinamool flags.

Roy was rehabilitated by Banerjee earlier this year after months of estrangement.

Even Exit polls were unanimous in predicting a return for Banerjee with a comfortable majority in the 294-seat assembly.

Banerjee founded the party All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC or TMC) in 1997 and became its chairperson, after separating from the Indian National Congress.

In 2011, aggressive Banerjee won a  landslide victory for the TMC Congress alliance in West Bengal by defeating the 34-year-old Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front government, the world’s longest-serving democratically-elected communist government

`Didi` (sister)called  by her supporters, has been the nemesis of the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Front and has earned the reputation of being a tough street fighter.

BJP attacked  Mamata over Saradha chit fund and Narada scams and the bridge collapse but she has  been voted to power due to  various development schemes undertaken by her as the chief minister : ‘Kanyashree’ schemes for girls and ‘Sabuj Sathi’ under which cycles were dsitributed among the students, besides Rs 2 kg rice for the 8 crore people in the state.
