Maharashtra: Six killed in Pulgaon Army depot blast

Wardha, Nov 20: At least six persons were killed and eleven injured in Pulgaon Army depot explosion in Maharashtra’s Wardha on Tuesday.

The toll shot up to six from the earlier four, with another 10 injured, including four seriously.

The explosion took place at the Depot around 7 a.m. when some discarded ammunition were being unloaded for destruction at the demolition ground here.

The demolition work was being conducted by the Ordinance Factory (OF), Khamaria, Jabalpur, with the help of an authorised contractor.

According to a defence spokesperson, the personnel were helping dig up pits and place sandbags over the explosives.

The fatalities included one Khamaria ordinance factory staffer and three casual workers employed by the contractor and two others.

Top police, army, Khamaria OF and civil officials have rushed to the incident site to probe the matter.

The identity of the deceased and injured, who were admitted to hospitals, was being ascertained.
