Voting underway for second phase of Himachal panchayat polls

Voting began on Friday for the second phase of Himachal Pradesh panchayat elections amid tight security.

The polling, which began at 7 am, is taking place for the election of Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs), representatives of 732 panchayats, state election commissioner TG Negi told

Police and home guard personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.

The counting of the votes for gram panchayat elections would start soon after the polling ends at 3 pm, while the counting of votes for panchayat samitis and zila parishad would be held on January 7.

In the first phase, the panchayat polls were conducted in tribal areas of Lahaul and Spiti and Chamba districts on November 26.

The third and the last phase will be held on January 3 and 5, respectively.

LNJP, GB Pant to shut OPD services amid spike in corona cases

New Delhi, April 3 (IANS) The Delhi government on Friday announced the shutting down of the out patient department (OPD) services of its two premier hospitals — Lok Nayak and G.B. Pant — amid the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the city.

In an order, the Medical Director, however, said the medical emergency services at both the hospitals will continue.

“The order will come into effect from April 4,” it said.

The two hospitals were earmarked for dedicated treatment of coronavirus patients.

According to the order, the medical emergency of LNH will continue from the ground floor of the general emergency of the casualty block.

“All obst and gynae services will commence from the old gynae block.”

It said G.B. Pant hospital will continue to provide emergency services to neurology as well as cardiology patients and will manage the Cardio and Neuro emergency patients referred from LNH.

Delhi has so far reported close to 300 patients infected by the deadly coronavirus.

13 people got infected from first corona patient in Bihar

Three personnel of the private hospital in which this patient was admitted have tested positive for the virus.

Patna, April 3 : There is a steady increase in the number of people contracting coronavirus in Bihar with 13 people in the state getting infected after coming in contact with the first coronavirus patient. This patient, who lived in Munger, died during treatment on March 22. He had a travel history to Qatar.

He had returned from Qatar on March 13.

Principal Secretary in the Health Department, Sanjay Kumar, said that 13 people including two family members got coronavirus infection after coming in contact with this patient. The number is expected to go up.

Three personnel of the private hospital in which this patient was admitted have tested positive for the virus.

Twenty nine people have been found to be suffering from COVID-19 in Bihar so far including seven from Munger.

Delhi riots: Police arrest PhD student, family cries foul

New Delhi, April 2 : A PhD student has been arrested by Delhi Police teams probing the anti-CAA violence in northeast Delhi. The arrested student is alleged to have been involved in plotting the violence on February 24-25.

The arrested student’s name is Miran Haider, a student of Jamia Millia Islamia. Haider has been arrested after a long-running investigation. However, no official information has been given by the Delhi Police regarding this so far.

According to police sources, “The police teams involved in the investigation of the riots in North East Delhi are expected to get more information from the arrested accused.

On the other hand, the student’s family say that Haider was only called for questioning. He was not expected to be arrested. They claimed he had nothing to do with the violence.

It is noteworthy that the police has arrested over 1,500 people so far for the riots. Those arrested include Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain. More than 50 people died in the violence. The case was investigated by the Crime Branch. Two DCPs and more than 10 ACPs led several teams to investigate the riots. The investigation is still ongoing.
