Jan 19: World Chess Champion Vishwanathan Anand on Thursday came out in support of Jallikattu and the struggle of his fellow Tamilians and said that it should be respected since its a Tamil cultural symbol.

“I’m all for animal rights, but here that is not the point. Tradition and livelihood are,” Anand tweeted.

He also praised the young people who are protesting against the Supreme Court’s decision to ban the bull-taming sport.

Tamilians all over India are protesting against the ban of Jallikattu. Earlier this day, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu O. Panneerselvam met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to issue an ordinance for the conduct of the traditional bull-taming sport.
