New Delhi, June 5: The Allahabad University on Tuesday witnessed violent protests after administration issued a notice to students to vacate a few rooms in the hostel.

The agitation began with a score of students gathering at the union hall to express their anger against the university order. They then took streets and held a protest, which soon turned violent.

During agitation, students torched police jeeps and a bike.

To control the situation police moved into action and resorted to lathi charge.

Citing sources, Hindustan Times reported, “the agitators pelted passing vehicles with stones and set a UPSRTC workshop bus, a motorcycle and a police jeep on fire before finally being chased away by police personnel”.
