Vijay Mallya not a needle which cannot be found: Congress to BJP

The Congress Party criticised the BJP-led NDA Government  in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday for allowing   Liquor baron Vijay Mallya’s  to escape the country  in the  middle of a fight to recover hundreds of crores in unpaid loans.

Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “Vijay Mallya is not a needle that he couldn’t be caught. He can be seen for 1 km away. I accuse this government – why was Vijay Mallya not arrested, why was his passport not seized?”

Azad said,“It seams that this  government is part and party in the criminal conspiracy in him fleeing the country.”
Assuring Opposition,Arun Jaitley said that the CBI is probing the case and that they had every intention to get back every single rupee from Vijay Mallya.

Arun Jaitley in his reply said, “Vijay Mallya was given banking facility for the 1st time in 2004 even when his account wasn’t in order.  Why that happened is something the CBI is looking into.”  When Lalit Modi went abroad, Congress was in power and a case was registered under FEMA.

“Several of his assets have been attached and banks are doing what they can to recover money from Vijay Mallya. He had left India before the banks could move the courts. Mallya was given banking facilities in 2004, when his account was not even in order,” he said.

While Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi accused BJP of not allowing him to speak.  Rahul  Gandhi said Congress would like to react on the Vijay Mallya issue. “If they allow us to react (on Vijay Mallya issue), we will. But I doubt they will allow. Government does not allow us to speak. PM does not like to discuss these issues,” he said.

Mnister of State (MoS) for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the government will not let Vijay Mallya escape with the money of Indian citizens. “Anyone who has siphoned nation’s money illicitly we will not let them live in peace.”

The Congress made similar allegations in the Lok Sabha.

Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said : “Vijay Mallya is not a saint for us.  There are huge debts and money he has to pay back.”
