New Delhi, June 15: Hindu-right groups, the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), have been classified as “militant religious organisations” by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
The two organisations have been categorised under ‘Political pressure groups’ in CIA’s World Factbook which is updated annually.
CIA, a civilian foreign intelligence service of the United States federal government in its recently updated World Factbook has mentioned the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, the ideological founder of BJP, as a nationalist organisation.
On the other hand, Sangh affiliates VHP and Bajrang Dal has been tagged as “militant religious organisations”, All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has been labelled as a separatist group, while the Jamiat Ulema-e Hind (Mahmood Madani) has been deemed a religious organisation.
Central Intelligence Agency, is the U.S. government agency tasked primarily with gathering intelligence and international security information from foreign countries.
The Bajrang Dal has apparently been described as “extremist” by the US State Department’s annual reports on International Religious Freedom because of assaults on religious minorities.
