Veteran actress Reema Lagoo passes away after cardiac arrest

Mumbai, May 18, 2017: Veteran film and TV actor Reema Lagoo has passed away at the age of 59 on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest at the midnight of 18 May.

The actor had been admitted to the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai.

As per reports, her son-in-law Vinay Waikul informed the media that she suffered a heart attack at midnight and was rushed to hospital in Mumbai. She breathed her last a few hours later.

Reema began her acting career in the late 1970s and the actor was best known for playing mums in both movies and television.

Lagoo has been an essential part of films such as Maine Pyar Kiya, Aashiqui, Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Vaastav, Kal Ho Na Ho and Hum Saath-Saath Hain.

She also made a name for herself in TV shows like Tu Tu Main Main and Shrimaan Shrimati. She was last seen in Naamkaran.

Her last rights will reportedly to be performed at 2 PM at the Oshiwara cremation ground here.

PVR launches smog-free auditorium

New Delhi, April 23: With the aim to combat indoor air pollution, cinema exhibition company PVR Ltd on Monday rolled out its “clean air theatre” concept by launching the “Audit-Air-Ium” theatre here.

The company will revamp and retrofit the central air purification systems powered by Nirvana Being to combat indoor air pollution. PVR ‘Audit-Air-Iums’ will be installed across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

“Ensuring a luxurious cinematic experience in a clean-air environment is our vision of tomorrow and PVR intends to implement this in a phased manner to guarantee an invigorating movie watching experience,” said Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Joint Managing Director, PVR Ltd.

The first ‘Audit-Air-Ium’ was launched at the Directors’ Cut, Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj. Retrofitted with customised air cleaners, the “clean air theatre” concept maintains indoor air quality as per the National Air Quality Index (AQI) standard.

Supreme Court stays proceedings against Salman over caste remarks

New Delhi, April 23: The Supreme Court on Monday put on hold the proceedings pending against Bollywood superstar Salman Khan before several courts across the country in cases registered under the SC/ST Act for alleged derogatory remarks against a community.

A bench of Chief Justice Deepak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud also issued a notice to states on the actor’s plea seeking quashing of several proceedings after complaints and FIRs were registered last year.

The bench sought the state governments’ response by July 23, the next date of hearing.

The actor has been accused of humiliating the Valmiki community by using an offensive word to describe them on a TV show while promoting his film “Tiger Zinda Hai”.

New Delhi, April 23: Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the plea filed by Swami Agnivesh, seeking to ban the last scene of film ‘Padmaavat’. Petitioner alleged that the film promoted Sati.

CJI Dipak Misra while dismissing the petition of Swami Agnivesh, observed, ‘do you think anyone will commit Sati by looking at the film? Women empowerment has increased in all these years.’
