Unnao, May 2: Another incident of sexual crime has surfaced in Unnao, as a Dalit woman has registered a complaint stating that her minor daughter was allegedly gang-raped two years back and the incident was filmed. Since then, the perpetrators have been blackmailing and assaulting the girl.
According to news agency ANI report, one person has been arrested so far. Further investigation is underway.
This incident comes at the time when the country is stunned with rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, who belonged to a nomadic Muslim tribe in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua.
Last month, an infant below the age of one was allegedly raped and killed.
Taking cognizance of the recent spate of crimes against minors, President Ram Nath Kovind, on April 22, promulgated the Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018.
The ordinance seeks the death penalty for those convicted of raping girls below age 12 years and stringent punishment for perpetrators of rape particularly of girls below 16 years, thereby strengthening the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
