Uttar Pradesh: Ex-MLA Nirvendra Kumar Munna beaten to death, son injured

Lakhimpur Kheri (UP), Sep 6 : Former independent MLA from Uttar Pradesh, Nirvendra Kumar Munna was beaten to death in a land dispute in Lakhimpur on Sunday.

The land in question is located near the bus station and the matter is in court.

According to reports, the other group came to forcibly occupy the land and the former legislator resisted the attempt after which the opposite party, led by one Kishan Kumar Gupta, beat him and his son Sanjeev Kumar Munna with ‘lathis’.

The former legislator was seriously injured and succumbed to injuries on way to hospital while his son has been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.

Family sources said that scores of armed men had come to forcibly occupy the disputed land and beat up the father and son.

Local people are staging a massive demonstration in Lakhimpur in protest against the incident.

Nirvendra Kumar Munna had been elected from the Nighasan Assembly sat as an independent legislator in 1989 and 1991 and in 1993 on the Samajwadi Party ticket.

Senior police officials were on the spot and did not respond to calls.

Meanwhile, UP Congress tweeted, “Another Brahmin killed. The jungle raj in UP is getting frightening.”

The Samajwadi Party termed it as a heart wrenching incident and asked the state government to explain.

Minor Girl rape

Fatehpur (UP), Oct 25 : A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a teenage boy in a village in the Khaga area of Fatehpur district.

Khaga station house officer (SHO) RK Singh said, “An FIR was registered on Saturday on a complaint against a 13-year-old boy, who allegedly raped the girl. We have detained the accused.”

The girl was playing near her house when the accused took her to a secluded place and allegedly raped her, the family members alleged.

According to the FIR, the incident took place at around 2 p.m on Saturday and the locals tried to settle the matter but, later, the family members of the victim informed the police about it.

The FIR was lodged on the charges of rape (section 376 of the IPC) and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the SHO said.

The victim has been sent for medical examination.

Delhi University releases third cut-off list

New Delhi: Delhi University on late Saturday released the third cut-off list for its ongoing admission process.

Zakir Hussain College released the cut-off list first, followed by Aryabhatta College and Rajdhani College.

A marginal dip of only 0.5 per cent was seen in the third cut-off as compared to the second as the cut-off for BA Hons (Economics), for the General category, of Aryabhatta College stands at 95.75 per cent.

Rajdhani College’s cut-off for BA Hons (Economics) for the General category stands at 95 per cent.

The cut-off for BSc (Mathematics) in the third cut-off list is 93.25 per cent, 92 per cent for Chemistry and 88 per cent for Botany. Admissions to Zoology have been closed.

A total of 52,183 students have deposited their fees in Delhi University so far.

The first cut-off of 100 per cent created a buzz across the nation. However, cut-off for the courses like BA Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Urdu, Persian etc came down to 45 per cent in many colleges in the second and third list.

Professor Hansraj Suman, in-charge of the Delhi Teachers Association and a former member of the Delhi University Admission Committee, said: “Half of the students were worried after seeing the first cut-off. In some colleges, the cut-off was 100 per cent while in some it was 99 per cent. Now, some colleges have reduced the merit so as to get some admissions.”

Yellow alert for 16 Karnataka districts as rains in store

IMD heavy rains predict

Bengaluru : The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) on Saturday issued yellow alert for 16 districts, including Bengaluru.

The KSNMDC also issued a thunderstorm warning in these districts, while warning of isolated heavy to very heavy rains likely over interior Karnataka, Malnad and the coastal regions.

For Bengaluru, the agency predicted that widespread light to moderate rains with isolated places and heavy rains, associated with thunder activity, likely over BBMP area for next two days till October 26.

The alert was issued to the Deputy Commissioners of Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davangere, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumkuru, Dakshin Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri.
