Lucknow, Aug 9: At least 26 women were reportedly missing from two women’s shelter homes run by NGOs in Pratapgarh making it third such incident in Uttar Pradesh after Hardoi and Deoria.
According to the media reports, district magistrate Shambhu Kumar first paid a visit to Jagrati Shelter Home in Ashtbhuja Nagar, where he found that 15 women were registered but only one woman was present there.
Later the team inspected Swadhar Jagriti Grih at Ashtbhuja Nagar where 17 women were found registered out of which 14 of them were not present.
This comes two days after, 19 women were found missing in ‘Swadhar Grah’ home shelter located in Hardoi’s Beniganj area, which had 21 girls registered as inmates.
Earlier, in Deoria 24 girls were rescued from the shelter on Sunday late night after a 10-year-old girl, told the police that they were being sexually abused.
Last month, 34 minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted in the Balika Grih, a short-stay girls’ shelter home run by an NGO in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.
The inspection was part of a statewide crackdown at the back of recent exposes in the shelter homes of Deoria and Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
