New York, Sep 27, 2016: In a bid to declare Pakistan “a state sponsor of terrorism”, An online White House petition has crossed 1,00,000 signatures, thus qualifying to get a response from the Obama administration within 60 days, according to reports.
Created with a target of 1,00,000 signatures on September 21, The online petition launched by Indian-Americans has become the third most popular petition on the White House website.
Earlier, Two American Congressmen have introduced legislation in the US House of Representatives to designate ‘Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism.’
An act, H.R 6069 or the Pakistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation Act, enjoins the US administration to make a formal call on the matter within four months of its passage.
This bill has been introduced by Republican Poe along with Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of the Democratic Party, who is Ranking member of this influential Congressional Committee on terrorism.
An initiative of the US President Barack Obama, “We the People” online petition at the White House website provides a window to American citizens to campaign before the administration on a particular issue.
Meanwhile, the White House said that it is currently focused on enhancing its counter-terrorism capabilities with Pakistan.
