Upendra Kushwaha clarifies ‘kheer’ remark

Patna, Aug 27: Clarifying his earlier statement, Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) Chief Upendra Kushwaha on Monday said that he was talking about social unity.

I was talking about social unity. Please don’t identify any caste community with any political party”, Kushwaha told media.

Addressing a gathering on Saturday, he said with Yadavs milk and rice from the Kushwahas would make a good ‘kheer’, which is being dubbed as a hint at a political alliance with the RJD ahead of the 2019 general elections.

“A large number of Yadavs have come for this event. When the milk from Yadavs and rice from Kushwahas are mixed together, it makes for good ‘kheer’,” the minister stated.

“But for making kheer, not only we need milk and rice, it also needs ‘dry fruits’ in the form of support from the downtrodden and backward classes. This is the meaning of social justice,” he added.

Traditionally, Yadavs are cattle- rearers while the Kushwahas belong to the koeri community.
