Pictures show Minister of State for Women Welfare Swati Singh — accompanied by Rae Bareli’s Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh and Unnao Neha Pandey — inaugurating a bar named ‘Be the Beer’ in Gomti Nagar area on May 20.

The political circles were taken by surprise, as that there has been no such precedence and that the bar she inaugurated does not even have a valid licence so far.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Range Inspector General Jai Narain Singh has also been sought an explanation from IPS officer couple as to how they left headquarters without the permission of their reporting authorities. Both officers were marked present on duty when they were attending the bar inauguration.

In the pictures, Singh can be seen cutting a ribbon of the bar and holding a menu card with the bar’s name imprinted on it.

Singh is Minister of State of women welfare, family welfare, maternity and child welfare in UP government and came in highlights last year after she launched a heated campaign against BSP supremo Mayawati, who in retaliation to her husband Daya Shankar Singh’s objectionable remarks made similar comments about Swati and her daughter.

The inauguration by a woman minister has become an issue for the government, as women groups in the state have been demanding a ban on the sale and consumption of liquor.

While BJP spokespersons refused to comment on the matter, some even saying they were not aware of it, opposition parties have blasted the minister for her conduct.
