A UP cop was shot dead by assailants in Dadri on Monday morning. The Police sub-inspector Akhtar Khan, who joined UP police in 1998 as constable and was posted in Dadri police station since June 11, 2014.
The incident occurred in Nai Basti of Dadri, which is hardly a few meters away from the Dadri police station. After shooting the cop, the criminals managed to flee from the spot.
Gautam Budh Nagar senior superintendent of police Kiran S said that Dadri police station had received a tip off that a dreaded criminal Javed was staying in a house owned by one Furkan in Nai Basti area. Akhtar with his team had gone to raid the place. “Akhtar went inside the house, while other cops were waiting outside. Criminals shot him on the neck and he died on the spot. After shooting Akhtar dead, criminals managed to flee from the spot,” Kiran S said.
“As of now, other details are sketchy. Javed is wanted in several criminal cases in Delhi and UP. We have recovered some pistols and 12 bore live cartages from the house,” he added. Eyewitnesses said that as Akhtar was shot dead, other cops, waiting outside the house, fled from the scene.
The cop’s body has been sent for post-mortem. “Only after receiving an autopsy report, the exact cause of death will be established. We have lodged an FIR into the matter with Dadri police station and a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits,” Kiran S further said.
Following the incident, DIG (Meerut range) Laxmi Singh has reached the crime spot. IG (Meerut range) Sujeet Pandey is also likely to visit the crime scene.
