Congress formally launched its Uttar Pradesh Assembly election campaign with the slogan “27 saal, UP behaal (27 year but UP in dire straits)” on Saturday.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi flags off a bus yatra from the party office in Delhi in the presence of newly-appointed Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar, party’s CM candidate Sheila Dikshit and the AICC general secretary for UP, Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The party’s aims to highlight the 27 years of poor governance since it lost power in the 1989 state elections to the now-defunct Janata Dal.
The bus yatra, with a message `27 saal, UP behal`, will travel through Ghaziabad, Hapur, Amroha and Moradabad on the first day and halt at Moradabad for the night.
“In the next two days, it will cover Rampur, Bareilly, Hardoi, Kannauj and Kanpur,” Sanjay Singh, chairman, campaign committee of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, said at a press conference here.
The Congress released a list of campaign incharges for all 18 divisions of Uttar Pradesh, including Harender Malik for Saharanpur, Harshvardhan Valmiki for Agra, Hasan Arif Ansari for Aligarh, Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi for Allahabad and Ram Bachan Dhuria for Azamgarh.
