Unnao, Kathua Rape horror: Congress to stage candlelight marches in all state capitals


New Delhi, April 13: The Congress will stage a candlelight marches on Friday in all the state capitals to protest against the incidents related to the sexual assault against women.

On the instructions of Congress President Rahul Gandhi, all the party leaders will hold candlelight march at different parts of the country to protest against the Kathua and Unnao rape cases.

Party’s General Secretary and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has briefed all the state unit chiefs and has directed them to raise the issue of atrocities against women during the marches.

On Friday midnight, Rahul along with other party workers held a candlelight vigil at the India Gate in the national capital seeking a strict action in Unnao and Kathua rape cases.

With the ongoing horrific Unnao and Kathua rape issue, the Indian social media has been abuzz with the words – “rape horror”.

An eight-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped and murdered in Rasana village in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district in January.

While Unnao rape case victim is seeking justice since last year.

On April 9, the father of the 12-year-old girl who tried to set herself on blaze outside the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s residence a day earlier alleging police inaction in her gang rape by a BJP MLA died under police custody.
