New Delhi, Sep 10: One dead, four injured after a portion of an under construction railway flyover collapsed near Bomikhal in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

The death toll was likely to increase as some of the rescued workers were critically injured. While the rescue operation is still on to save the people who are trapped under debris.
The recently dead person has been identified as Satya Patnaik (40), a businessman from Bhubaneswar. Patnaik’s daughter Sheetal has also been severely injured in the mishap. The incident occurred when the portion of the under construction flyover collapsed on them when they were crossing the road. Sheetal has been shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar and her condition is said to be critical, Times of India reported.
According to reports, the flyover collapsed this afternoon when nearly 20 labourers were engaged in construction activities at the site. Nearly, five persons are still reported to be trapped under the rubble while rescue operations have begun to rescue them.
“We had started the work at around 8 am and were busy in plastering the roof of the flyover when it caved in,” said an injured labourer.

According to reports, the flyover project was under Roads and Buildings (R&B) Division-4 and was being executed by Panda Infra. Works Secretary Nalinikant Pradhan informed that already two senior engineers have been asked to visit the spot and conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.
“After getting a report from the engineers, action will be taken against those found responsible for any negligence,” Pradhan added.
10 fire tenders, three units of ODRAF have launched a massive search and rescue operation at the spot. Senior officials informed that cutters, cranes from Cuttack have also been sought to expedite the ongoing operations.
Police Commissioner YB Khurania and other administrative officials have reached the spot and closely monitoring rescue operations.
The BJP and Congress blamed the Naveen Patnaik for the tragedy.
Congress leader Suresh Kumar Routray said the construction work was going on at slow pace for over 10 years and there was deliberate neglect to escalate the project cost for political funding.
Routray also sought CBI probe into the flyover collapse.
