It looks like problems for Shahid Kapoor & Alia Bhatt starrer upcoming film, Udta Punjab, seems to have no end. While the movie is still battling to release on the mentioned date June 17.
Udta Punjab, the movie bolted in a bitter battle with the censor board, leaked online on Wednesday evening, just two days before the worldwide sceerning.
The copy submitted to the censor board found its way into several torrentz sites that offered the film’s download illegally.
The links have reportedly been pulled down from various sites after the complaint was filed.
The movie leaked online has a ‘for censor’ watermark mentioned on the top left thus it raises the suspicion on CBFC and it also includes the only scene that was asked to cut.
However, CBFC claims to be innocent in the case. An official from the board stated, “During examining, revising or re-screening, the DVD was brought by the filmmakers and taken back by them. At no point we had sole possession of the same.” The officer justified the water mark on the film saying, “It could be leaked from a CD which was meant to be shown for censor purpose alone, but got leaked in transit.”
The producers of the drugthemed drama “Udta Punjab”, slated for release this Friday, lodged a copyright theft complaint with the cyber police. Police is investigating the matter and are tracing the IP address through which the movie was uploaded, an official said without elaborating.
On the other hand, a petition has been filed challenging the Bombay High Court’s order on the film ‘Udta Punjab’, a Punjab-based NGO approached the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking stay on the movie’s release. The judgement underlying the case is yet to pronounced.
While on the other hand, the Supreme court to hear a plea seeking stay on release of the movie ‘Udta Punjab’ later in the day.
