Srinagar, Dec 2: Following Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s request, the Central government announced on Saturday that two exam centres for this year’s national eligibility entrance test (NEET) would be set up in the Valley.

“Responding to the plea of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Central government has decided to set up two examination centres for the students of Kashmir Valley appearing in the upcoming NEET (PG)-2018 examination”, news agency IANS quoted.

“In a communication, the Union Health Ministry has informed the Board of Professional Examination authorities of the State to re-direct the candidates belonging to Kashmir Valley to two centres set up at Srinagar and Baramulla in this connection,” an official statement asserted.

It said that the decision follows a communication from Mehbooba Mufti to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda on 10th of last month drawing his attention towards the non-availability of examination centres for aspiring candidates belonging to Kashmir for the examination being conducted by National Board of Examination on January 7, 2018.

The Chief Minister had said that the non-availability of an examination centre at Srinagar would put such a large number of medical graduates to a lot of inconvenience and requests for a local centre has come from various groups of students.
