Two encounters underway in Jammu and Kashmir: Soldier killed, terrorists escape

Srinagar, Aug 18 : Simultaneous two encounters are underway between security forces and terrorists in Hajin area of Bandipora and in Kupwara’s Kralgund in Jammu and Kashmir .

An army soldier was killed on Friday in a brief gunfight between the security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said.More details are awaited.The encounter began early this morning and is currently underway. There is no information on the number of terrorists present in the encounter in Kupwara’s Kralgund.

“Terrorists have managed to escape. Searches are on in the area,” a police officer said.

Following specific inputs, security forces laid a cordon around Kachlu village in Kralgund area. When the cordon was tightened, hiding terrorists opened fire triggering the encounter in which the soldier was injured.

He succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

This new development comes after four soldiers were injured on Thursday during a gunfight with terrorist on the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the reports, army noticed some suspicious movement near the Sangam post on Line of Control and challenged the suspected militants in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

The infiltrating militants started firing towards the position of Army personnel, triggering an encounter.

Four soldiers were injured in the exchange of fire and were evacuated to a medical facility in Kupwara.
