TV journalist arrested for sexually exploiting colleague in Kerala


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, July 27: A senior journalist working with a leading vernacular daily arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sexually exploiting a colleague.

The accused, Amal Vishnudas, a resident of Sasthamangalam has been booked under sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC at the Pettah police. The accused is a senior news editor at Mathrubhumi news channel.

Pettah Circle Inspector S M Riyas stated that a case was registered on Tuesday evening following a complaint against the man. As per the complaint, the accused, who was superior to her in the office, was already married when he expressed his love to her.

He assured the girl to marry her as soon as he gets a divorce from his wife. Thus, he sexually exploited her at different places, including their work place.

But as the man allegedly continued to exploit her, she filed a complaint against him as she became convinced that he has no intentions to fulfil the promise of marriage.

While, the accused has told the police that it was the complainant, who made advances towards him and lured him into a relationship despite knowing that he was already married.

Meanwhile, the police have taken the accused Amal into custody from Sasthamangalam. His arrest was recorded after a long session of interrogation. The police have also subjected the complainant for a medical examination. The accused will be produced before the court in the afternoon.

Mathrubhumi management, in a statement issued through the news channel, said that they have suspended Amal Vishnudas in view of the sexual harassment case against him.
