Washington, Jan 5 : President Donald Trump warned Iran that the US has identified specific targets of Iran if it “strikes any Americans, or American assets.”
He further said that Iran is talking “very boldly” about targeting certain USA assets to seek revenge for Qasem Soleimani, who the US claimed had killed an American, and badly wounded many others.
In a series of tweets, Trump said, “Iran is talking very boldly about targeting certain USA assets as revenge for our ridding the world of their terrorist leaderwho had just killed an American, and badly wounded many others, not to mention all of the people he had killed over his lifetime…,”
“Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have … targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), , some at a very high level and important to Iran and Iranian culture, will be hit very fast and hard. The USA wants no more threats!”
This comes after Iran’s supreme leader has vowed “severe revenge” on those responsible for the death of top military commander and leader of elite paramilitary forces Qasem Soleimani.
In formal notice to Congress, Trump defended his decision to kill an Iranian general
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said the administration provided little justification for the strike, and she called on Trump to provide more information about why the action was taken.
“This document prompts serious and urgent questions about the timing, manner and justification of the Administration’s decision to engage in hostilities against Iran,” Pelosi said.
Pelosi said Trump’s continuing confrontation of Iran “continues to put service members, diplomats and citizens of America and our allies in danger.”
Soleimani was killed by an air strike at Baghdad airport early on Friday ordered by US President Donald Trump.Though Trump has initially sought to defend his action, saying the U.S. does not “seek war” while warning terrorists not to target American interests.
“We took action last night to stop a war. We did not take action to start a war,” Trump told reporters in Miami.
The 62-year-old Soleimani spearheaded Iran’s Middle East operations as head of the elite Quds Force.
Not disclosing about the specific targets the US has identified for possible strikes, however, the president mentioned about sites of cultural significance.
As Whereever US has carried out a military operation, it has targeted cultural, economic sites.
Trump has been issuing his policy towards his country, campaign for the 2020 presidential elections and lashed out at nations for endangering the security of the America through twitter and he also threatened “fire and fury” against North Korea if the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, continued testing nuclear weapons.
The Baghdad attack came just days after Hashd members and supporters attempted to storm the US Embassy in Baghdad, in response to the air attacks against Kataib Hezbollah – a member of the umbrella organisation that operates in Iraq and Syria.
