Trial run of Lucknow Metro flagged off

Lucknow, Dec 1: With the first glimpse of the metro in Lucknow, the trail run of the Metro Rail was flagged off on Thursday in the presence of Chief Minister.

The test run was done from the elevated priority section of the Transport Nagar Metro Depot, near Amausi airport in Lucknow.

CM Akhilesh Yadav commissioned the trail run in the early hours.

However, the metro train service will be available to commuters only after March 2017.

“We have set March 26, 2017 as our revenue operations deadline, in other words the commencement of service for the people,” stated a LMRC officer.

Top Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) bosses were closely observing the test runs of the newly-acquired gleaming silver and red-ribbon coaches on the 700-metre track inside its state-of-the-art Transport Nagar Metro Depot.

Civil work on the Rs 1069 crore of the Phase 1A of the project called priority section began on September 27, 2014. “We have completed the work in 26 months, which is a record for any metro rail project in the country,” claimed an LMRC official.

The metro service in Lucknow will be next big addition to the city’s infrastructure after Gomti Riverfront Development and Agra-Lucknow Expressway.
