Trend of Brutal killings should be termed as terrorism irrespective of which party they belong



The brutal killing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker E Rajesh in Thiruvananthapuram has been grabbing the headlines for days but Kerala has a long history of political killings.

According to RTI inquiry 56 people fell victim to internecine violence in Kannur in the decade from January 1997 to March 2008. and the police officials had been claiming that leftwing Marxists and rightwing Hindugroups are the main players invoved in finishing off political foes.

The violence in Kerala has escalated after Modi assumed power at the Centre that emboldened RSS-BJP cadres to make their presence felt in the cycle of political murders. Eventually the number of political killings,party’s other than the saffron party have shown an increase as compared to casualities of the other parties in the state.

The FIR lodged in the murder of E Rajesh stated it was a political murder triggered by the regional political rivals and 12 CPI(M) workers have been arrested for their role in the murder (eight for their direct involvement and four others for conspiracy and harbouring the accused).

The key accused Manikuttan is a history-sheeter involved in a dozen criminal cases and four others are active members of the party youth wing, DYFI.

RSS leader E Rajesh (34) was waylaid and attacked by a group of CPI(M) workers when he was returning home after work. He received more than 52 stab wounds and later succumbed to injuries.

According to police report at least 160 killings have taken place in Kerala between 2000 to 2017. In the last 17 years ,65 RSS workers, 85CPM workers, 11 Congress workers  and IUML each have been killed by their political rivals.

While addressing  Kerala Assembly,Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has rather accused the BJP of diverting attention from the medical college scam involving one of its expelled leaders and said BJP might carryout attacks in some parts of the state.

Vijayan government has even expressed his willingness to handover the case to the CBI if necessary and the chief minister said that the vigilance investigation team will consider the internal probe report prepared by the BJP.
