TN Farmers, political parties blocking train tracks, dozens arrested

Chennai, Oct 17: Agitated farmers, political organizations are staging a protest in Tamil Nadu over the demand of constituting a Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

The protesters on Monday began a 48-hour rail roko in Tiruchi and delta districts. Various  party leaders also gathered on the railway tracks in support of the protestors. DMK leader M.K. Stalin led the party’s protest at Perambur.

Police arrested several farmers from Thanjavur district and Members of the DMK, Congress and MDMK were also held for protesting in different parts of the state.Thanjavur-wefornewsWater dispute is going on between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over sharing of Cauvery river waters.

On October 3, the Ministry of Water Resources filed an Interlocutory Application in the Supreme Court asking for modification of its September 30 order which directed to constitute the CMB by October 4.

The Ministry in its application mentioned that the CMB is not in a position to constitute the board now.
