Lucknow, May 29 At least nine people were killed and more than five others injured after a thunderstorm struck some parts of Uttar Pradesh, a state government spokesman said on Tuesday.
While 12 people dead and over 28 injured in different parts of Jharkhand, news agency ANI reported.
Of the nine victims, five were from Unnao district. They were struck by lightning on Monday night, IANS quoted the Relief Commissioner official as saying.
According to Meteorological Department, Thunderstorm accompanied with Rain/Squall/Hailstone is likely to occur today during next 3 hours over some areas in Hardoi, Sitapur, Farrukhabad districts and adjoining areas.
The other four deaths were reported from Rae Bareli and Kanpur rural.
“Concerned district magistrates have been asked to ensure prompt relief and see to it that the financial assistance to the injured and the victims’ families get compensation in 24 hours,” the official stated.
