Three killed in UP bike accident

Lucknow, Nov 14: Three young men were killed in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh when a Motorcycle they were riding fell off a flyover during a race, police said on Tuesday.

The incident happened around midnight on the flyover on the Partapur bypass.

A police officer said the youth were headed for a relative’s house when they decided to race to their destination. Three were on a Pulsar bike while two others were on a Bullet.

While racing at high speed one of the bikers apparently lost control. The vehicle skidded and hit the flyover before plunging many feet down on the road below.

All three were killed on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Puneet, Mohit and Manvendra.

Their bodies have been sent for autopsy and their families informed.

Bengal town tension: ABVP burns Mamata’s effigy

Kolkata, Sep 25 : The BJP’s students wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Tuesday torched an effigy of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and demanded resignation of state education minister in protest against the killing of two students in Islampur last week allegedly in police firing.

It also demanded a CBI probe into the killings.

ABVP activists assembled outside Swami Vivekananda’s ancestral home in north Kolkata’s Simla street and marched to the Dharamtolla crossing, where they were stopped by the police.

Some ABVP workers were allegedly injured when the police tried to disperse the agitators.

The police forcibly dispersed the crowd.

Delhi: Bodies of two sisters found in drain

New Delhi, Sep 25: In a shocking incident, bodies of two sisters, who had been missing since September 19, have been recovered from a drain, the police said on Tuesday. 

“After their parents could not find them for two days, they lodged a missing complaint on September 21,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Gupta told media, adding that they belonged to Seelampur area in Northeast Delhi.

The bodies of the two young girls, aged 19 and 22, were found on Monday evening in the Alipur drain of North Delhi’s Rohini area.

“There weren’t any visible injury marks on their bodies. The cause of death can only be ascertained after the post-mortem report,” the officer said.

In another incident, a Body of a woman was found in Nizamuddin area. Head was found in one bag and rest of body in another bag.

Yamuna in spate, flowing above danger mark in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 25: The Yamuna river is flowing above the danger level in the national capital following the release of water from Haryana’s Hathnikund barrage due to heavy rains and flash floods in parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.

Since last few days, the north Indian states have been witnessing downpours resulting in an increase rivers water level.

The warning level mark of the Yamuna is 204 metres and the danger level mark is 204.83 metres.

“The water level of river Yamuna at Delhi Railway Bridge at 11 a.m. was 205.12 meters,” a Flood and Control Department official told IANS.

“The water is showing a rising trend and is expected to go up as Delhi is witnessing rains and more water is being released every hour from the barrage,” he added.

The water discharged from Hathnikund barrage, which provides drinking water to Delhi, normally takes 72 hours to reach the city, he said.
