There is a scope for a rethink, Says Abdul Basit on Jadhav death sentence

June 21, Wednesday : Pakistan’s High Commissioner Abdul Basit said there is a scope of rethink on Kulbhushan Jadhav death sentence even after his appeal rejected by the Court of Appeals.

In an interview with the Hindu, Jadhav Basit said has some other measures to appeal in Pakistan also, as he can appeal for mercy first to Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa and President Mamnoon Husain if his appeal was rejected by the Court of Appeals. “So there is room for a rethink there.”

When asked about the process in the International Court of Justice, Basit said, “We would like this process to be over quickly, but until (it does), we are committed.”

However, Jadhav is  Safe till the final verdict of International Court of Justice, as the court has scheduled next hearing dates for India and Pakistan on September 13 and December 13 respectively.

Recently, Pakistan has said in a statement that Jadhav will not be hanged  till he is done with all his mercy petitions, as per the law he has two appeals one with the Pakistani Army Chief and secondly with President of Pakistan.
