Srinagar, Aug 24 :One terrorist has been eliminated in an operation by the security forces on Friday after identifying four terrorist hideouts in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag. A gunfight is underway between the security forces and terrorists in Anantnag district in which two terrorists hideouts has been destroyed completely.
Body of a terrorist has been recovered from the site while three terrorists are reportedly trapped in the area, which is being jointly operated by Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The encounter is said to have erupted in Vihlu area.
Upon receiving a tip-off about the holed-up terrorists, the security forces cordoned off Gadole village in Kokernag area.
Few people have been detained for questioning, Shesh Paul Vaid, Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu & Kashmir, said. Security forces have begun combing operations in the area.
“As the cordon was tightened, the terrorists fired at the security forces triggering the ongoing gunfight,” police sources said.
Up to three militants were reported to be hiding in the village.
As a precautionary measure, authorities have suspended mobile internet services in the district.
