Several trains were delayed, diverted and evacuated at New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday after a bomb threat on Delhi-Kanpur train triggered panic while Delhi-Lucknow Shatabdi Express at neighbouring Ghaziabad was evacuated.
The Maharashtra ATS received an e-mail threatening of a bomb blast on a Delhi Kanpur train, and informed railway authorities following which the train was stopped.
The ASI had called the station managers requesting all Delhi-Kanpur trains be checked before being allowed to leave.
Dog sqauds were sent to the facility and passengers were frisked and security has been stepped up in view of a threat to blow up trains running between New Delhi and Kanpur railway stations.
Following the call, Lucknow Shatabdi Express was evacuated at Ghaziabad railway station. The train was thoroughly checked and nothing suspicious was found, said Neeraj Sharma, CPRO Northern Railways.
Railways claimed that it was a hoax call and trains have left for their destination as per schedule.
“Nothing found during search, we got clearance at 7:40 AM and the train was allowed to leave at 7:42 AM. The train and luggage were searched with help of Uttar Pradesh Police, civil police, Railways Police Force, dog squad and bomb disposal squad,” said Sharma
