Saudi Interior Ministry said the police foiled a terrorist attack in Asir region in the country .The supects were travelling in a car laden with explosives and they were killed in a shoot-out .
The ministry’s spokesperson Major-General Mansoor Al Turki on Friday said the terror attack was prevented when the police chased two suspicious cars at a parking lot, one of which had explosives.
The drivers aware that they were being followed, fired shots at police,propting a car chase .Security aircraft intervened and the suspects pulled over in a desert area as both sides traded fire, forcing the drivers to leave their cars and seek cover before the bombs in one car exploded, the spokesman added.No injury was reported among the police forces.
Al Turki said that further investigation will focus on identifying the attackers and their target.
The Islamic State (IS) group have previously claimed deadly shootings and bombings against security forces in the kingdom, where dozens were also killed in a wave of attacks by al-Qaeda between 2003 and 2006.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the two men, the spokesman added.
In another incident a small bomb exploded outside a highway patrol station in eastern Saudi Arabia, injuring a policeman, official media reported.
