Jaipur, June 23: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of those who lost their lives in the incident where a ‘pandaal’ collapsed in Barmer’s Jasol village due to dust storm on Sunday.
Injured to be provided a maximum of 2 lakh as compensation. Jodhpur DC to conduct an inquiry into the incident in which fourteen people were killed and more than 50 others injured when a tent of a religious program collapsed.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot convened an emergency meeting at his office in the Secretariat after the tragedy and ordered an investigation. Teams of State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) have been sent to Barmer from Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur, said disaster management and relief minister Bhanwar Lal Meghwal.
Barmer district collector Himanshu Gupta said the tragedy occurred when a huge tent supported by metal structures collapsed on people listening to ‘Ram Katha’ (story of Lord Ram) in a program organized near a government school ground in Jasol village.
“Prima facie, it appears the people died after the metal poles fell on them and they got caught in the stampede ,” said Balotra additional superintendent of police Ratan Lal Bhargava.
