Rohtak, August 23 : Tension is prevailing in Rohtak’s Titoli village after a mob attacked the house of a Muslim family on the rumours of animal sacrifice on the occasion of Bakrid.
Mob attacked residence of two Muslim men , whom they accused of beating up a calf to death to be later slaughtered on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha.
Police has accused one of the two men of accidentally killing a calf while chasing it away and then allegedly trying to dispose of the carcass.
An FIR was registered which stated that the accused man Yameen allegedly started thrashing calf with sticks who was grazing around 6:30 am but accidentally hit the bovine on the head that led to its death.
The FIR further said that Yameen was trying to transport the carcass to the farms in a vehicle and had killed it with the intention to slaughter it on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha.
Rohtak Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said police have arrested Yameen accused of killing calf and the driver Shoukeen under the Indian Penal Code and the Punjab Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955.
No complaint was filed against the mob who attacked the residence of Yameen . About 20 Muslim families , fearing for their lives, fled the village to take shelter at their relatives’ places following the incident.
More than 50 policemen have been deployed in the village, which has a population of over a thousand Muslims, to prevent any untoward incident.
