Mumbai, March 19: A special TADA court on Monday sent Mohamed Farooq alias Farooq Takla, a close aide of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim to police custody till March 28.
Takla, one of the accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, held from the United Arab Emirates and has been brought to India on March 8.
The CBI had sought 14 days police custody of Farooq to verify and scrutinize his statements given during investigations.
The probe agency told Court during remand proceedings that he was not co-operating during past duration of remand so at least 24 days Police custody is needed.
At least 257 people were killed, more than 700 wounded and properties worth crores destroyed in the Mumbai blasts.
Takla’s arrest came just two days after noted criminal lawyer Shyam Keswani reiterated in Thane that Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar was reportedly willing to return to India and face trial, but the Indian government had rejected some of his preconditions.
