New Delhi, Dec 3 : The proposal to install a statue of Swami Vivekananda has become yet another flashpoint as the students’ union and teachers’ association are becoming suspicious about the source of funds for this statute.
JNUSU Vice President Sarika Chaudhary has criticised the administration’s decision as the varsity is facing shortage of funds to pay minimum wages to the mess workers and this move is to divert funds to install the ‘life-sized’ statue instead of developing a library at the campus.
“We’re told that the university doesn’t even have the funds to pay minimum wages to the mess workers. Our issues are being ignored by the VC to please his political masters,Chaudhary said.
The foundation stone for the statue was reportedly recently laid at the campus, albeit discreetly.
However, Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) have questioned the source of the funds for the statue.
