New Delhi, Aug 17: Social activist Swami Agnivesh, who came to pay his respects to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was attacked outside the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters on Friday.
Minutes after Agnivesh arrived at the BJP office on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, where the body of Vajpayee was kept for people to pay tributes, a group of people raised slogans asking him to go back.
News channels showed footage of the former Janata Party MP was running and chased by people, who were believed to be the saffron party workers.
The Delhi Police then took Agnivesh in a van and moved him to safety.
Last month, the 78-year-old saffron-robed activist was thrashed in Pakur district of Jharkhand when he was on way to attend a public function in a village.
Suspected BJP youth wing and ABVP workers had allegedly manhandled Agnivesh accusing him of being involved with Christian missionaries for “instigating” tribals to convert thier religion.
