Surat Fire: FIR against Builders, Owner of Coaching Centre

Surat, May 25: Surat police on Saturday morning filed an FIR against three people including builders of the complex- Harshal Vekaria and Jignesh, and the owner of the coaching centre Bhargav Bhutani in connection with fire tragedy.

At least 20 students, the oldest aged 21, were killed after a fire broke out in a multi-storey-Takshashila complex in Surat on Friday.

Meanwhile, witnesses claimed fire brigade arrived at the spot 45 minutes late.

My daughter was inside the building when the fire broke out. The fire brigade from the fire station, which is not more than 2 km away, took almost 45 minutes to come. Even though my daughter got saved, she is in trauma. At least 5-6 parents are still looking for their missing child,” Paresh Patel, father of a rescued girl, told news agency ANI.

Another witness, Ajay Patel, said the fire brigade came 30-35 minutes late. “The pressure of their pipe was too low to douse the flame,” he added.

There was smoke, I did not know what to do. I took the ladder, first helped the children get out of the place, managed to save 8-10 people. Later I managed to rescue 2 more students. Fire brigade came after 40-45 minutes
