New Delhi, Jan 7: The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict on Tuesday (January 8), on pleas filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Alok Verma and NGO Common Cause challenging the decision of central government to send him on leave and divesting him of all responsibilities.

A bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi on December 6 had reserved its order on the conclusion of arguments by the Central government, Central Vigilance Commission and CBI on one hand, and petitioner Verma, the NGO and others on the other hand.

In a dramatic midnight action, the Narendra Modi government on October 23 last year divested CBI chief Alok Verma of his charge after amid a bitter feud with his deputy Rakesh Asthana.

On the same day, Joint Director M. Nageshwar Rao was asked to take over.

Asthana was also sent on leave.

The CBI’s top two have blamed each other for corruption.
