Supreme Court raps CBI for delay in filing FIRs on Manipur fake encounters

Supreme Court on Monday pulls up CBI while expressing dissatisfaction in the investigation in Manipur fake encounter cases. Court also directed NHRC to depute 3 persons to work with the investigating agency to complete the task.

The Apex court has criticised the CBI team for the delay in filing FIRs on alleged fake encounters. The special investigation team told bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur they have filed 12 FIRs in the matter. The supreme court on 14th July 2017 set up an SIT to look into the probe.The CBI is expected to investigate 1,528 cases of alleged fake encounters in Manipur.

Of the 81 cases, 32 cases are probed by a Commission of Enquiry, 32 cases are investigated by judicial enquiries and high courts, the National Human Rights Commission has awarded compensation in 11 cases, while a commission headed by former Supreme Court Justice Santosh Hegde is probing six cases, PTI reported.
