New Delhi, Aug 10: Supreme Court ordered vehicle owners in Delhi-NCR to mandatorily furnish a valid pollution under control (PuC) certificate at the time of renewal of annual insurance of vehicles.
A bench of justices MB Lokur and Deepak Gupta announced the order after the concern of rising air-pollution levels in the national capital.
Lokur also ensures that all fuel refilling centres in the National Capital Region (NCR) have PUC centres.
The Union ministry said that the two requirements cannot be merged because while insurance renewal is an annual feature while PuC checks is to be done at short intervals.
The apex court granted four weeks time to the Centre to ensure that there are functional PUC centres in NCR.
