Supreme Court dismisses petition filed against release of ‘Padmavati’

New Delhi, Nov 10: Supreme Court has dismissed the  petition filed against release of the film Padmavati.

While dismissing the petition, Supreme Court said that the Censor Board has not yet issued certificate to Padmavati , it is an independent body and therefore Supreme Court should not intervene in their jurisdiction.

The petition filed by a group of persons seeking stay on its release for allegedly hurting sentiments of the Rajput community by “distorting and twisting historical facts”.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic period movie, which is scheduled for release on December 1, has been at the centre of controversy with many groups protesting against its screening. Rajput Karni Sena, an organization of the Rajput community, and Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha, a Brahmin community organization, have decided to oppose the film’s release. Thousands of people took to the streets on November 3 and blocked roads across Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh city to protest against the film.
