Lucknow, Jan 24, 2017: Ahead of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav kicked off his election campaign on Tuesday from Sadar tehsil of Sultanpur.
Addressing the rally, Akhilesh Yadav said that “The Uttar Pradesh people have decided that the ‘cycle wala’ will win this time.”
“The Samajwadi Party government has launched a number of schemes to benefit the poor including helpline numbers for women in distress, ambulance services etc,” he said.
While taking a dig on the BJP, the new Samajwadi Party president said, “They gave the slogan ‘Ache din’, but where are these good days.”
“This year, the union budget will copy Samajwadi party’s flagship sceme,” he said.
This will be the first election rally of UP Chief Minister after he was elevated as the head of the ruling party, replacing father Mulayam Singh Yadav, who has been made SP patron.
Sultanpur will hold the polling in the fifth phase on 27 February.
However, Akhilesh’s decision to start the campaign from there left party workers wondering as to why he ignored the places going to polls in the first or second phase.
